Whosits and Whatsits Galore Introduction to Underwater Cultural Heritage in Southeast Asia

UNESCO adopted the Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage in 2001 to protect “all traces of human existence having a cultural, historical or archaeological character which have been under water for over 100 years”.

Other related UNESCO conventions on culture and heritage including the UNESCO Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972), the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), and the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005)
